As with the software industry in general, we are moving to a business model where all our customers can access the latest improvements and new functionality to help their business. The subscription model helps ensure that we deliver real value to our customers each and every year because all customers have access to every new version and bug fix. So far, thousands of existing users have migrated to 2020 Design Live. These customers are enjoying the same software they know and love but with enhanced features and functionalities. 2020 encourages our customers to migrate at renewal time for no additional cost.
A Maintenance and Support plan provides access to new versions, bug fixes and product support for 2020 Design but does not provide access to 2020 Design Live. A 2020 Design subscription plan provides the same benefits but also includes access to new versions of 2020 Design Live which includes features and functionality not available in 2020 Design. As with the software industry in general, we are moving to a business model where all our customers can access the latest improvements and new functionality to help their business. With perpetual licenses, too many customers were opting not to pay for Maintenance and Support plans which help fund new versions and improvement—and then were disappointed when they were not able to access a new version unless they bought a new license. The subscription model helps ensure that we deliver real value to our customers each and every year because all customers have access to every new version and bug fix.
There’s no plan as of now to discontinue Maintenance and Support plans but the reasons to migrate to subscription will become more compelling as time goes by. If you want to have access to new capabilities to help you design faster and win more deals, it makes sense to migrate as soon as you can, and you will save money too.
No, but as time goes by there will be more and more advantages to using 2020 Design Live for your business. In addition, you can migrate now for no additional cost over Maintenance and Support, but that will not always be the case.
Yes, you have the option to opt-out by filling out this form. However, we recommend migrating today to take advantage of the introductory offer and all the new features and enhancements available in 2020 Design Live.
As an existing customer with an active maintenance and support contract, you will keep the same price conditions once you migrate to a 2020 Design Live subscription. As we regularly update our annual maintenance and support cost, renewal cost for migrated licenses will increase in a similar but reasonable way. Migrated customers will enjoy this substantial discount (versus the list price for new seats) for many years to come.
