The cloud was a terrible idea from its first conception, and has only gotten worse as time has passed. Some specifics:
–Requiring us to be on the internet to use the software is INCREDIBLY limiting, as I used to bring my laptop to jobsites that often don’t have internet yet and do on-the-spot design work, and now I can’t. The cloud is obviously only part of that, but it’s a big part.
–As others have noted, having the software constantly connecting and reconnecting and downloading stuff from the cloud slows things down a lot, and makes the design process take a lot more time. It’s especially frustrating when a cloud item doesn’t download properly and we need to keep deleting it and trying again, or the software just freezes until the download is finished, it’s maddening.
–The cloud catalogs are a huge pain to navigate, just incredibly counter-intuitive.
–Even when I finally locate the item I want to use often and set it to my star/favorite items, if the manufacturer discontinues that item and it’s removed from the catalog, now I’m screwed and all my designs where I used it are going to be messed up. This obviously could not happen when we had local file catalogs.
–For the past several weeks, most of the items in the Decorative catalog don’t even work. They give a “GLTFException: “Index count for MESH_TRIANGLES must be a multiple of 3” error and just make the software go all twitchy, and if they display at all, it’s as a big gray block full of pink cross-hatching that you can’t make go away. Infuriating. I’ve called support and they informed me it was a known bug- So, they all worked until a few weeks ago, can’t we just undo whatever changes you did in the meantime? Or, you know, go back to local file catalogs?
–During the long period when we could not re-color or re-texture cloud items, we were told that feature was being worked on. When it finally was, it was only using cloud textures. I want my local texture capabilities back!!!!! I’ve purchased and paid for, and created myself, tons of custom textures that I now can’t use. What a pointless and awful decision.
Honestly, I have no idea what the driving motivation behind most of these decisions was. I’m dumbfounded.
