I have found a workaround that I have been using to tone down that light coming through the windows. I go into the window attributes, change the glass to charcoal, then lower the ambient lighting to reduce the overall light coming through the window. You will need to add recessed lighting to light your design and I also use up-lighting to even out the ceiling light.
