When installing V12 I get an error message about an SQL Server Compact file as follows:

“Before installing the x64 versions of SQL Server Compact, download and install the x86 versions of SQL Server Compact from http.go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkld=158865.”

I’ve copied the link and it does not work.

If I OK the error, 2020 finishes the install and opens but then says the idea center catalogs are corrupted.

I went to Microsoft support site and followed some steps to update the SQL server from their site, but still getting the error when installing V12. I attached a screenshot of the error message.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Hjames,

You need Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 sp2.  This link should take you to the Microsoft download page. Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2

Problem solved! I guess I was trying to download 4.0 instead of 3.5? Either way it works now. Thanks Neil!
