ParticipantI switched computers and almost had an entire basement design completed. How do I transfer this file to my other computer? I’ve tried saving it to our network and then opening it on the new computer but it doesn’t work. I’ve tried the export/import feature and it didn’t work either. Please help!

ParticipantCan you save it as a .kit file on a thumb drive and open it from there on the other computer?

Pilot ProIf I recall there are some issues occasionally when trying to open 2020 files on a network drive. There is a way to make it works, but it escapes me at the moment.
In the mean time you can copy it from the network onto your local computer and you should be able to open it.
Hope that helps!

Pilot ProHi Melanie,
As the others have suggested, this may be due to a bug in how the network files are handled so try copying it locally or to USB drive as suggested.
If the local/usb method doesn’t work, do you get an error message at all and if you do, what is it? A screen capture of the error would be helpful.
Ther are no other known issues with transferring files between machines so long as the 2020 Version is the same and that both machines have the same catalogues.

ParticipantI had tried literally everything except a thumb drive because I didn’t have one. Tried it this morning and it worked! Thank you so much!

ParticipantI save designs to my google drive. That way I can work on my office desktop or my home laptop. I haven’t had any problems opening files from there, but I do get occasional errors if I try to save there directly. If you try this, educate yourself on how to access a .bak file. I had a few nightmares until I did.

Pilot ProI’ve had issues saving to a Google drive so I do a copy at the end of the day. It’s a bit of a pain but it works and it avoids corrupted drawings. It’s because of the way Google does it’s sync to the cloud. There are a couple of ways round this by setting up a sync schedule (not a feature built into Google Drive so a bit more work):
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/drive/WKAorR2-krQ
or buy this software:
https://www.maxsyncup.com/how_to/setup_google_drive.html
I’ll be playing with other ‘own cloud’ software soon to find a better solution.
