Desiree BennettParticipantHi there – asking for a coworker, but 2 other have also had this happen. File crashes, try to reopen and error pops up “The file you are trying to open is not compatible with 2020 Design”. We have tried copying the .bak file and changing it to a .kit, but that isn’t working either. Nothing in recovery files. She is calling support tomorrow, but thought I’d try here also. Also, she isn’t on the latest version, but I am and couldn’t open the files either – not sure if that matters.
Thanks!

Mike LangensiepenPilot ProSeen this before and been unable to recover from it. Incremental saves are your friend.

Neil WilsonParticipantHi Desiree,
What Mike said! 🙂
Have your co-worker give us a call and we will look into why the crashing occurred and see if we can recover the file. Unfortunately we don’t have a magic wand and some files cannot be recovered but sometimes we get lucky.

ParticipantHi Desiree,
First of all, you do not have to copy and rename a .bak file to a .kit file. To see if the .bak file will open, first try ‘File – Open’ and then in the drop-down list under ‘File types:’, choose BAK Files (*.bak) and select the design you want to open. If this doesn’t work, I’ve been lucky a few times by selecting ‘File – Insert 2020 File’ – ‘From local Storage’ and choose the .bak file type as well. If you do not receive the same incompatible error message, you won’t see anything until you bring your mouse to the grid. Once you do and see the design layout on the grid, click one time and it will paste. You will have to re-add all Accessories and reset the door style, etc., but you will have the design layout.
