Thanks! Is there any way to install V11 without overwriting V10?
-
April 17, 2015 at 12:53 pm #26947Neil WilsonParticipant
Nope. Like the earlier versions of 2020 (up to 9.1) the latest version will overwrite the previous one.

Thanks Neil,
Your Launch utility allows me to have V6.1 through V9.1 installed and be able to switch version to help dealers across various platforms. Might we see a reboot of Launch coming? (I’ll add this to the Wish List section too)

Whenever I am Windows task manager, I notice that 2020 Design has “(32 Bit)” next to it. Does this mean that there is a 64 Bit version of 2020 Design v.11?
-
July 30, 2015 at 1:25 pm #39863Pasquale BrancatiParticipant
Hello,
That means you are running a 32 bit program on a 64 bit operating sysatem. Which is not a problem. 2020 Design is currently only available in a 32 bit format.
Thank you

Installed 11.2 after accepting the pilot cloud program. Read the getting started guide, my “view” pane does not have the “cloud” icon. Would I be correct in thinking I should have opted for “custom” installation when loading 11.2 to be able to select the cloud catalog tool?

Hi James, Trimble Sketchup (no longer by Google) is not included in 2020 Design. You can import items from the Sketchup warehouse into 2020 Designs but not edit or change Sketchup items within 2020 Design.
There is a free version of Sketchup available for download or you can buy the more complex chargeable version.
If you are importing Sketchup items into a design, make sure you are on at least V11.5 of 2020 Design and ALWAYS pick the Sketchup 2013 format download option.

Just FYI, unless you upgrade to the latest V11 then Sketchup import via the weblink no longer works. I have never liked this option myself – I have always browsed the Sketchup Warehouse from a browser, downloaded the shapes I wanted and then imported them manually.
Also remember that Sketchup 2014 is now the only format available on Warehouse that works with 2020 Design.

Okay, this may seem rather silly, but it’s really an issue with me. I just switched to v11.7 from 10 and I really want to change the color of the orange status bar at the bottom. It visually vibrates against the cool gray and frankly, it’s hard to look at. It’s literally causing me eye fatigue. It seems stupid but it’s kinda freaking me out. I can’t look at my screen for more than 5 minutes at a time. HELP! I may abandon 11 if I can’t find a solution. (Please make it dark gray next time.)

Hey Brenda,
The orange is part of the new branding and as one of the guys who had to wear an orange shirt at KBIS when it happened I’m with you. But personal preferences aside there is unfortunately no way to change the colour of that bar. It would be a good idea though and I will enter a feature request in your name.

Thanks Neil. With three different schemes available, an option without the orange bar would be greatly appreciated! Going with the white scheme and turning the brightness way down has helped a little bit, but some of us have old eyes, and it’s not optimal. Again, a nice gray would be really nice!!! (BTW, I love my avatar…it’s me!)
On the plus side, the download went smoothly. I don’t miss the days when we had to reload all of the catalogs. The cloud stuff is cool too!

With 11.7, is anyone else having issues with the object snap tool? I cannot seem to snap onto any object’s corner without my lines/shapes automatically offsetting in a different location!
For instance. I’m trying to use the surface tool to calculate backsplash sf and it will not snap onto the edge of my countertop. So I turned object snap off, put my cursor on the corner of the countertop and it still offsets the surface line.
If anyone can tell me a way around this, it would be much appreciated.

Hello Willesa,
It sounds like your Area snap is on. It is the button that looks like a grid in the lower right. Turn it off and it should resolve the issues.

Willesa, I saw this once and had to do a registry reset. I DID try the snap options but it didn’t fix it.

I am having the same issue with trying to drag items on a drawing. Items use to smoothly drag around in a floor plan now them jump it what looks like 1″ movements. Even to resize a wall you can not smoothly drag the end of the wall to where you want it. I am almost ready to either go back to V9 or V10 to give up on 2020 all together. I have used it of over 18 years and yes the 360 image is great but the basic design process is harder to work with.
I also can not get items to snap, so do and some do not and I have never had this issue and am using the same cabinet lines that I have used for years.

Hi JoAnn,
I have quite a few designers who still use V9 for the main design as it has none of the delays and layout bugs that V11 has. They then exit V9 and open the same drawing in V11 to render and produce 360s. This works well and is a good option so long as you do not save the V9 drawing when in V11 because it then makes it unavailable in V9
Both versions sit quite happily on the same computer.

Willesa, It is not the snap issue. I have tried both with the snap on and turned off. Items will not smoothly drag but jump in 3″ increments. Some items I am now finding do not snap at all even when it is turned on. This is just poorly written software.

Hi Joann,
If this were a wide spread issue I can guarantee you we would have had a lot more calls concerning it here in the support center. Please take the time to give us a call at 1-866-697-2020 so that a tech can connect to your computer and have a look. I’ve seen similar issues myself and every time it has been something in the settings or preferences.
