I’m just coming back after a hiatus of over a decade, but I do remember that, back in 2013, lighting was a bit of a ruckus as well. I’ve just replied to a newer question somewhere here in the forum, and that OP may give me the answer I’m looking for, but… What I did back in the day was set up dummy looking recessed cans, pendants, or chandeliers, and had them spill no light. Then I had a bunch of angled (vertically and horizontally) cans with no texture (so they were kind of camouflaged, I guess). I had a kitchen plan saved with nearly every kind I’d need. That plan was the blank slate I’d start with. I’d copy/paste until I got the lighting I wanted, then just axed the extras (or had them a gazillion feet on the other side of a wall). I wish I could find a good example. I had sunlight shining in the window and everything.
I’ve not figured out yet (I’m on Day 1 today) how to get at lighting angle settings on a puck light in the TASKLT21 catalog, so I can’t make it work at the moment.
