As 2020 continues to provide new updates, additional functionality and improvements to 2020 Cloud, it is sometimes very difficult, and occassionally impossible, for these to be delivered to customers using older versions of 2020 Design. When it is impossible for us to continue to support an older 2020 Design version, we will always try to give plenty of notice to our customers, so that they have time to download and install a more contemporary and readily available version. For customers using 2020 Design Version 11, a message will now be displayed when attempting to use 2020 Cloud, advising that, by 31st August 2021, an update to a more contemporary version is required to continue usage. 2020 Design Version 12 will have been available to all our customers for around 2 years by then, so hopefully, the time customers have to upgrade to the latest version before 2020 Cloud will no longer be accessible, will mean this unavoidable action will not cause any issues.
Please feel free to reach out to the 2020 Support Team if there’s anything we can do to help with the upgrade process.

We have been avoiding making the switch to V12, due to the unending issues people are having with sign-out/sign-in.
How soon will you have this sorted? Before Aug 1st?

I see lots of posts in the forum regarding people who cannot sign-in from home because they forgot to sign-out at work – and there is apparently no way to sign-out remotely or override this. This is a major issue. Are there plans to fix this?
Also, the issue of non-compatibility with prior versions: can we keep a copy of V11 on the computer to open old designs? How will that work?

Hi Ariana,
The next release we come out with should have an auto log out feature and I believe this will sort out any issues that clients have with signing out.
As always, our program is not backwards compatible. This means that if a design was created in v12, you cannot open it in v11. However the program is forward compatible so any designs you created in v11 will open in v12.
Version 11 is a 32-bit program while the version 12 is a 64-bit program. This means that both program live in different places on your computer so you can have both versions installed on the same computer.

Kris

Ah! Thank you.
I assume that if I open an old design in V12, it “converts” it – and afterwards it will not be able to be opened in V11. Once opened in V12 – it’s a V12 design, yes?

Yes, this is absolutely correct. Once a version 11 file is saved in version 12, it is then converted to a v12 file and will not open in v11 any longer. So if you have any colleagues that you share files with, be sure that all of you update to v12 so that no one has any issues opening files.

Many thanks!
Now the challenge is updating our computer hardware during the pandemic!
