Graphics Card Rendering

Is it at all possible to change fusion settings to become more reliant on the Graphics card? There is  a Quadra going to waste in my machine getting the occasional 6% usage during renders where as my processor is maxed out. Are these settings exsisting? or would 2020 be able to implement an update that would allow this type of render?

      Hi Grant,

In short, no such tools or settings exist. However, here is a little more detail on the dependencies of each of the renders:

Fusion renders fall into two distinct categories – those that are CPU-based (Preview and the three ‘HQ’ renders) and those that are GPU-based (White Fill, Colour Fill, Draft, Planning Mode, Navigation and Fusion 3D).

CPU-based renders will benefit from having a more powerful processor; Fusion also takes advantage of multi-core processor power (quad-core (or higher) is our entry level recommendation), which will be particularly noticeable with the forthcoming release of Version 5 – which includes ‘background processing’ functionality for printing, exporting, movie generation and panorama generation.

GPU-based renders will benefit from a more powerful dedicated graphics card.

So, in summary, your Quadra card (subject to spec) may well help speed up the lower level renders and your navigation speed; the higher quality renders remain dependent upon your computer’s processor.
