The 2023 paint and color trends you need to know

In the realm of home decor, color has the power to transform mere walls into canvases that represent who you are as a person. As interior design trends develop through 2023, we’ve seen the emergence of some captivating colors that inspire us to reimagine our living spaces – and by extension, ourselves.

According to Fixr.com’s latest Paint & Color Trends Report, the overall trend this year seems to be making bolder choices in the home, as well as incorporating nature-inspired colors. From subdued neutral tones to saturated hues, we’ll explore ways to incorporate these trendy shades seamlessly into the home, whether it’s a vibrant accent wall or a complete room makeover.

So get ready to infuse your living spaces with a fresh wave of inspiration from these five paint and color trends that are emerging in 2023:

1. Go bold

Go bold

Neutral colors have long been considered the safest choice for homes, but now it’s time to add a twist to this ongoing trend with splashes of brighter hues throughout your spaces. According to 58 percent of the experts surveyed by Fixr.com, neutrals with pops of bold colors are the most popular choice of palette in 2023. There’s a reason, after all, that Pantone named the brilliant Viva Magenta its color of the year.

For homeowners who are looking to inject some life into their spaces without overwhelming the room, adding a splash of color can really elevate the home. One easy way to incorporate this trend is through colorful furniture and textiles. You can either opt for an accent piece or mix and match colors throughout the room, it all depends on how bold you want to go.

2. Cozy cream

Also found among the most popular palettes this year is cream. In addition to working well with other accents, cream is a great shade to commit to for clients looking to sell their homes. It acts as a blank canvas for potential buyers to imagine themselves making their own.

This shade can also be the base color of any room. Combine it with wood or add a splash of color to it. You can even play around with depth and texture by using different materials or finishes of the same color around the space.

3. The terracotta trend

The most popular color of 2023 according to 50 percent of the experts surveyed is terracotta, a rich, red-brown shade that inspires southwestern designs. This striking, earthy color can add a dramatic touch to neutral interiors, injecting a burst of vibrancy and personality into an otherwise subdued space. It’s worth mentioning that Sherwin-Williams saw this trend coming, when it named the clayish Redend Point its color of the year for 2023.

A beautiful rug in this iron-rich clay shade can instantly transform a space, adding depth and visual interest to the floors while tying the entire room together. But if you’re wanting to take a bolder approach for a client, covering an accent wall with terracotta can be an excellent way to create a focal point in the room.

4. Make guests green with envy

Deep green is also among the most popular shades of the year. This rich and deep color effortlessly elevates any room and brings forth a sense of drama and elegance, offering a touch of sophistication that captivates the eye.

While it may not be ideal for very dark areas of the home, deep green can be the perfect accent hue for clients who aren’t ready to fully commit to it throughout the entire room. One way to work with this contrast would be to tile one wall of the bathroom with this color. This will give it a renewed sense of style and wellness without the need for a full remodel – and at only a fraction of the cost.

5. Indigo interiors

If you’re looking to make a statement, indigo is the way to go in 2023. This rich, nature-inspired color is one of the more saturated colors from this year's trends, making it an excellent candidate for adding depth and drama to your spaces.

Try including this color on kitchen islands to instantly create a bold and captivating focal point. This rich hue not only adds a sense of depth and intensity to the heart of the home but also sets a sophisticated and daring tone for the entire space.
