Hi Celia,
you could also create a shelf by creating a user shape in annotations. Go to Annotations, select rectangle, make a rectangle on the floorplan the width and depth of the shelf you want and then right click on the rectangle and select Make 3D. Select 3D shape and then click on place. Then you can texture and resize the shape and move it into place.
