So basically you’re charging us more to access the same catalogs we got for free??? It is very wrong for you to upgrade us while we are in the middle of the work year and take away the catalogs we were using and now we can’t design for our customers.

This new “faster, better Live” has not improved our process. Our program is much slower to open and so far the renderings are not an improvement. We spend way more time trying to get lighting in the right place. So far, not a fan.

          Hi Amy,

It is normal for the program to take a little longer to sign you in as it uses internet to do so.

For your lighting issues, I would suggest to make sure that you are using the newest version of the program being the version 12.5.1. Click HERE to download v12.5.1. If you still having lighting issues after updating, I would suggest to contact support to see if there is anything we can do to assist. You can reach us at 1.866.697.2020.

      Hi Yolanda,

Thank you for your feedback, we are so excited that 2020 Design Live is available for a free upgrade for all our customers. If you are a 2020 Design Premium subscription customer, you are automatically upgraded to 2020 Design Live when you install 2020 Design 12.1. The same situation exists for 2020 Design Essentials subscription customers, who are automatically upgraded to 2020 Design Foundation when they download 2020 Design 12.1. For 2020 Design Complete subscription customers, a free upgrade is available, when they connect with our migration team.

With whatever level of 2020 Design you previously had (generic or manufacturers catalogs) the access to all your catalogs should remain the same. The beauty of 2020 Design Live is the ability to design with configurable content that is up-to-date and easy to search. If you are having any issues with 2020 Design Live, I suggestion you contact support by calling 1.866.697.2020.

      Regards,

          Hi Amy,

Once you purchase or migrate to design live, you would need to download and install the newest version of the program. The new version of the program has a ‘check for updates’ button in the Help tab to automatically look for the newest versions.

When going to Design Live, you have access to manufacturer catalogs available on the cloud. These cloud catalogs are updated and maintained by us. Any catalogs that you manually install to the program (using the catalog manager) would still need to be updated by you.

          Regards,

          Kris

This is not true. We were told we have to pay and that is is not free upgrade at all. The customer service said there is no such thing as a free upgrade. I even filled out the form to upgrade no one has called me and support has no idea. What you are saying is deceptive. We are still unable to work and even some of the cloud items do not show up in the design.

I’m confused about the 2020 Design Live upgrade.  I have downloaded the very latest version today, and have just read about the upgrade being automatic.  However, I did fill out a request to update days ago.  Could I be using 2020 Live but not noticing anything different?  The catalogs in the cloud appear the be the same old products.

      Good afternoon,

I just listened to your recording for the Live Webinar.
As we ponder this switch to Live, I have one HUGE Underlying concern.

Am I correct – if the LIVE Server(bank) goes down, or the backup power source fails, won’t EVERY Live User be screwed, until the issue is resolved? Please explain.

      Thank you very much!

      Hi Gregg,

Design Live is not so different of a program than Design. The only thing that differs from the two is that now with Design Live, you can access manufacturer based catalogs from the cloud. So yes, If the Cloud server fails then you wouldn’t be able to access the Cloud.

Just an update to be fair.  I sent a similar message to the sales rep yesterday.  Today, the problem was taken care of and I do have a much better line of graphics to choose from.  I would erase the message above but there is no option for that.

      Hello,

I would like to upgrade but have not heard back from customer service yet.

Also, a bit concerned the quality of the images will go down, I read in the forum that some are complaining they have no control of shadowing and things so the image looks worse. if that is the case I do not wish to upgrade until fixed.

Can someone please get back to me? I sent the request about a week ago but heard nothing as of yet.

      Thanks.

      Hi Einav,

It is possible that they have not been able to contact you back as there are a lot of clients who want to have their licenses switched to Design Live. I have requested for someone to contact you as soon as possible however.

The quality of the program will not change with the type of license you have. The update of the license will simply give you access to the Design Live features. One of the new features is a new Rendering Engine.

What you might be talking about is the new Rendering Engine we have introduced, which is called EZ Render. This engine is still in its BETA form which we are still working on perfecting. This is also an optional rendering engine which means you do not need to use it if you do not want to. Once you have a Design Live License you can test it out by going to File > Preferences > Rendering Performance and then switch from Redway 3D to EZ Render (Beta).

      Regards,

      Kris

I was looking through my emails about the new licensing. It says to upgrade your maintenance support at grandfathered pricing. Is the $1200 grandfathered pricing? I see others talk about the upgrade being free but don’t understand how, etc. Please clarify.

Also, I won’t be able to design a kitchen, let’s say if I was on vacation with no internet, if I cannot access the cloud?

      Thanks

        Hi Brian,

If you are on support then the upgrade from your license to Design Live should be free. To see what we could offer you, I would suggest that you contact our sales department for further clarification. You can reach them by calling 1.866.698.2020.

As for the license itself, you are correct that you need internet to sign in. Before leaving on vacation, sign into the program. Once you are signed in, you can then close the internet connection. Doing this will put you in an offline state which will keep you signed in for 7 days. At the end of the 7th day, you will be kicked out of the program. Once this happens, you will need some internet to sign back in and then you can close it to get another 7 days of offline access.

        Regards,

        Kris

Can we still download and use manufactures ZIP catalogs with a Design Live subscription?

What are the benefits of giving up our perpetual licenses and migrating to design live?

Since i have two keys, will i need to have seperate a sign in for each design live seat?

      Hi Robert,

Design Live will work just the same as your current license does. You will be able to install as many catalogs as you’d like.

One of the benefits of upgrading to Design Live is that some manufacturer catalogs are now available to you on the cloud. All catalogs on the cloud are automatically updated by us and the manufacturers so that you (the designer) will not have to worry about having the most up to date version. Design Live will also ensure that you can only create items that the manufacture has so that your reports will always be correct. HERE is a link to learn more about Design Live.

Each license needs its own email address to be assigned to. You cannot assign 2 licenses to 1 email. One license per user.

      Hope this helps!

      Regards,

      Kris

With the 2 versions of the Design Live, Foundation and the other, I need to pay and extra $500 a year to get the catalogs of manufacturers I already have and buy from?

      Hi Brian,

Currently we offer two versions of Design Live. There is Design Live and Design Live Foundation. If you were to purchase a Foundations License, you will only have access to generic catalogs. If you were to purchase a Design Live License then you will have access to manufacturer catalogs, closet catalogs and XML(Application Integration). HERE is a link to take you to the pricing for both options.

Although the option to upgrade your license is there, the choice is always yours to make. If you are comfortable with the current license you have, then you do not need to update it.

      Regards,

      Kris

What they don’t tell you is that there was no upgrade. You still have to download the catalogs the old way. The companies that supply the catalogs are not always going to update their catalogs this way and I was told that most companies will have to provide their catalogs per the cloud. So someday we will all have to upgrade to be able to get the same catalogs we got for free.  This will be the only way to get any catalogs as all the catalogs will move to the cloud eventually. They never told  us that we  had to still download the old way so we really never got an upgrade but later we will have to pay for it but for now we don’t. It’s all very confusing and 20/20 wasn’t going to tell us all this but at least we found out after many calls until we got someone who would be honest with us and open about what we needed to do and how things will be in the future. I wish we could switch to another program but we have used this for so long we don’t want to try and learn a new system. There are still many bugs that 20/20 needs to fix as well.  Lighting has the most issues. I still don’t get the new beta rendering. Many times we click the button for someone to contact us and no one ever does.

      Hi Yolanda,

When updating to a Design Live, you will have manufacturer catalogs available to you on the cloud.

You are correct, we do not have all the catalogs available on the cloud as of yet but it is our hope to one day get there. HERE is a link that will show you all the catalogs there are for 2020 Design. When you click on the link, you will have an option to see “Manufacturers on 2020 Cloud”. This will show you all the catalogs that are currently on the Cloud for Design Live Users.

When looking at the different options of licenses, one of the points is that Design Live users can use both the Cloud content and the File-Based Catalogs. HERE is a link to take you there.

As for your lighting issue, I would suggest to contact our support department so an agent can take a look and see what isn’t working properly. You can reach us by calling 1.866.697.2020.

To activate the new EZ Render, when you have the program open, you can go to File > Preferences > Rendering Performance and then check the box next to EZ Render (Beta). Then ‘Apply’ and ‘OK’ and check out the rendering. It should now be using the new rendering engine.

Would you be able to clarify which button you are clicking on to be contacted?

      Thank you,

      Kris

there is no option for ez render.

Any of the help buttons I have pressed. I also signed up for the live online show and it said that someone would be contacting me about the show. No one did. I complained about people cancelling the private meetings last week and they had customer support call me. Customer support had no idea and didn’t even know there was a virtual show online.

The EZ Render is only accessible in the latest version of Design, the version 12.2.12. I believe you might be using another version of 12 seeing as you do not have the option for the EZ Render.

It seems the meeting was scheduled for different topics, and we canalize your request to a support agent. Would you have an specific date and time when you can be reached? That will ideal!  If so please email us the date\time, we will make sure you get the assistance that you need. You can send the email to ResidentialSupport@2020spaces.com.

      Automatic Updates –

We have 2020 installed on 40+ PC’s. My IT support company installs all software including 2020 as a Windows PC Admin user. Now when the actual user is signed on the PC and 2020 prompts to upgrade to the next version the upgrade fails with a permissions error. The convenience of having 2020 prompt for an upgrade is mute. Either 1) Not prompt for an upgrade when the user who is signed onto the PC is not the user who installed it,  or 2) Allow 2020 to install for all users regardless of who initially installed.

      Hi Lawrence,

The automatic updates are pushed through the program regardless of who is using the program. If the program cannot be installed because of permissions, then you would need to contact your IT for them to grant you permission. This will always happen if the designer is signed into the computer as a Standard User. For you to have as little issues as possible when running the installation, you would need to be the Admin or Local Admin on the computer.

IT’s will put themselves as Admins and everyone else as a Standard User so that people cannot install items to the computer (in case they are harmful). This way, the user would have to contact IT to make sure they are allowed to have the item installed or not.

      Regards,

      Kris

We are in the process of moving into Design Live, and I had a couple of questions.

      1. In the traditional 2020, we ran into cross-compatibility issues — we have design teams that send files back and forth, so when we moved from 11 to 12, 12 could open files created in 11 but not in the reverse. If one member of the team moves to Live, will they still be able to open files from/send files to someone still in traditional 2020?
      2. Right now, we use catalogs that are generated by our vendors and downloaded from their sites, and then uploaded into the 2020 catalog manager. If we switch over to Live, and the vendors are not ones that are utilizing cloud catalogs, do we still have to re-upload the catalogs one by one into the Live version as we did when we migrated from 11 to 12? Or is there a way to move them all over easily?
Thank you so much in advance for everyone’s input. The timing of this is a little tedious since we’re slammed right now, but before we all start doing it and there are problems, I want to have as much info as possible.

      Hi Patty,

      1. Our program is forward compatible but not backwards compatible. If a user in version 11 tried to open a file from 12, it will not work. So if one designer is updating to version 13 and no one else is on version 13, then you will experience the issue. Design and Design Live are the same programs, the addition of ‘Live’ simply means they are using a ‘Live’ license. Just make sure all the designers are either on version 12 or version 13 and none of them should have issues!

      2. Very good question to ask. The answer is no, you wouldn’t have to manually reinstall your catalogs as we now have a tool that you can use to easily move your catalogs from the version 12 to the version 13. Click HERE to be taken to our article that will allow you to download the tool and it will explain how to use it.

      Hope this helps 🙂

      Kris
